A new partnership in Torbay is using the power of swim, bike, run to change lives for children in care and young people with disabilities. Katie’s Cyclists, part funded by the Triathlon Trust and Triathlon England, is helping cared for children and care experienced young people and those with learning difficulties and disabilities gain confidence, independence and a lifelong love of being active.
Since launching in 2024 the team has already engaged more than 300 young people and family members through festival days and has gifted around 40 refurbished bikes. The way those bikes are sourced tells its own story. Machines that would otherwise go to landfill are collected from the local recycling centre, refurbished by prison inmates and by a recovering addict who runs a bike workshop through local charity Healthscape.
