Our programmes

We fund and support programmes that use swim, bike and run to create healthier, more connected communities. Working through partners in our Active Places, we help people be active, build confidence and discover their potential.

What we support

Our work focuses on three strands:

  • Active Places: long-term partnerships in selected communities where we invest in multi-year programmes
  • Community programmes: projects using swim, bike, run and walking to improve wellbeing and social connection
  • Potential and progression: initiatives that build leaders, strengthen local coaching capacity and help ensure talented people are not held back by lack of access to equipment, resources or opportunity

Together, these strands help us reach people who might otherwise miss out and ensure our funding creates lasting change rather than one-off experiences.

Active Places

Active Places are communities where we commit funding and support over several years. In each place we work with local partners to understand local needs, map provision and co-design programmes that make it easier for people and families to be active.

A typical Active Place programme might include sessions for all ages, community events, family activities and training for local leaders and volunteers. We join up opportunities across swim, bike and run and make best use of local facilities, parks and open spaces.

Current pilot areas include communities in Walsall, Leeds, Hackney, Hetton, Wrexham, Dumfries & Galloway and Sandwell.

Community programmes

Community programmes are at the heart of how we change lives. These projects use swim, bike, run and walking to bring people together, improve health and build confidence, often in areas with lower levels of physical activity. Below are examples of the programmes we support.

Potential and progression

We invest in projects that help people grow as leaders, activators and role models, building skills and confidence they can use in sport and in life. This includes leadership training delivered through our partners that equips people to plan and lead inclusive Swim Bike Run activity in their own communities.

Alongside this, we are developing new approaches to ensure people with strong potential are not held back by lack of access to equipment, resources, coaching or competition opportunities. This is about opening doors and creating fair chances, while keeping people connected to their communities as role models and leaders.
